Uta Ingeborg Marie Von Oertzen Summerer, 90, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. She was born on February 8, 1935, in Berlin, Germany, to Adolf Friedrich Wilhelm Max Von Oertzen and Ingeborg Erika Anneliese Jänisch. At the age of 15, Uta immigrated to the United States, where she was later adopted by her American stepfather and took the name Slay.
On April 3, 1957, she married Calvin Newlon Guilfoy Wells Summerer Jr. in Memphis, Tennessee. Together they welcomed two sons, Christopher and Timothy. Uta’s beloved husband Calvin preceded her in death in 1962, as did both of her sons—Timothy in 1969 and Christopher in 2018. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Trampisch.
Despite profound loss, Uta built a life rooted in faith, service, and love. She earned her degree from Portland State University and worked for many years in property management with American Property Management. She was deeply involved in her church communities, notably Grace Extended and, more recently, Precious Daughters, and also founded a nonprofit ministry, Isaac Ministries. Over the years, she took 11 missionary trips to Israel, experiences that reflected her deep devotion to her faith and her love for sharing it with others.
Uta loved the Lord and served Him wholeheartedly. She found joy in God’s creation, especially the Oregon coast, flowers, and birds. Known for her sweet and gentle nature, she will be remembered for the warmth she extended to everyone around her. Family and friends will forever cherish her favorite sayings: “Off we trundle in a cloud of dust,” and “Love you, bunches!”
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Maldonado; her grandchildren, Ashley Summerer, Karli (Tommy) Shaw, and Whitney Summerer; and her great-grandchildren, Braden Holmes, Joseph Shaw, and David Shaw.
A burial service will be held at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton, Oregon, on September 24 at 11 a.m. A memorial service will follow on October 18 at 2 p.m. at Corbett Community Church in Corbett, Oregon.
Uta will be deeply missed, but her family takes comfort in her long-expressed joy at being reunited with her loved ones in Heaven—especially her sons.
