Harold was born on Aug. 21, 1930, to Hilda Johnsen-Hendriksen and Hjalmar Hendriksen. The family moved to Astoria when he was 2 years old. He grew up in Uppertown, went to Astor Elementary School, and graduated from Astoria High School in 1948.
After high school, he was a tuna fisherman and bought his boat, The King, when he was 29. He fished from Alaska to Mexico. In 1972 he gave up fishing and started his own business, Hendriksen Oil Co., which he operated until he retired in 2008.
Harold was a member of many organizations over the years, including the Elks Lodge, Lions Club and Sons of Norway. He was a lifetime member of the Scandinavian Benevolent Society, and his beloved Bethany Free Lutheran Church.
He married Evelyn Hendriksen on Nov. 2, 1963, and she preceded him in death in 1998.
He is survived by his daughters, Lori and Lisa Hendriksen; and his grandchildren, Krysta, Kylee, River, Daniel and Alyssa; and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Abrahams; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was proud of his Norwegian heritage, loved to spend time with his friends and family, and was known for his kindness.
The funeral will be held at Caldwell’s Mortuary at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, with a reception to follow at Bethany Free Lutheran Church.
