Richard Charles Landwehr, age 74, died Monday, July 18, 2016, in Astoria.
He was born April 5, 1942, in Astoria, to Donald W. and Agnes K. (Hendrickson) Landwehr.
He attended school at Lewis & Clark Elementary and Astoria High School, where he graduated in 1960. While in high school, he joined the naval reserve his junior year, and then served active duty from 1960 to 1962 aboard the USS George Clymer APA-27 Troop Transport ship.
In October 1963, he joined the Oregon State Police. His first duty station was Klamath Falls, Oregon. There he met and then married Laurie Bruns in 1965. They had two children, Kevin and Lisa. After more than 20 years of marriage, they later divorced.
After moving to Astoria in 1973 as a detective for the Oregon State Police, he served until his retirement in 1992, a total service time of 29 years.
He is survived by a son and daughter- in-law, Kevin and Yvonne; a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Fay; two grandsons, Brendan and Taylor; and a granddaughter, Madison, all of Astoria. He is also survived by numerous nephews, cousins, extended family and special friends, Mel and Miki Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa, in 2015; and a dear companion, Sigrid Searle in 2009.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion, 1132 Exchange St., Astoria, Oregon.
