Patricia Van Cleave, of Svensen, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, in Astoria.
She was born Dec. 29, 1929 in Portland, Oregon, the only child of John and Patricia Densmore. The family moved to Scio, Oregon, in the fall of 1930. Patricia graduated from Scio High School with the class of 1947. She attended Oregon State College for two terms and for one year of business school.
She married her high school sweetheart, Rolland J. Van Cleave, on Sept. 16, 1949. He passed away June 24, 1994.
At her 50th high school reunion in 1997, she renewed her acquaintance with Donald Abrahams. They married in November 2001 in Long Beach, Washington, and have lived in the Svensen area of Astoria since that time.
In her lifetime, Patricia lived in Salem, Albany, Scio, Roseburg, Clackamas, Bend, Stayton and Astoria. She worked for Pacific Northwest Bell as a service representative in Salem, Albany and Roseburg. She also worked for four years as assistant treasurer for the credit union in Bend.
She is a former member of Order of Eastern Star. Patricia enjoyed traveling, music, walking, gardening, her family, grandchildren and extended family. Patricia also enjoyed remembering birthdays, anniversaries and sending cards to family and friends. Her Christmas card list exceeded a hundred, with each person receiving a handwritten note.
Patricia had two children; son John Van Cleave of Sweet Home, and Valda Van Cleave Susac, who passed away April 1, 1985.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Abrahams of Svensen; her son, John, and his wife, Sandy; her grandchildren, Kevin Van Cleave and his wife, Celeste, and their children, Hayden and Rynn, of Sweet Home and Carissa Wallis and her husband, Stetson, and their children, Carson and Colby, of Salem; her stepchildren, Mike Abrahams and his wife, Michele, of Astoria and their children, Miranda and Mykka, and Judy Anderson and her husband, Jon, of Astoria and their children, Brian and Jordan, and Susan Green of Seaside and her daughter, Tesa.
A graveside service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2016, at City View Cemetery in Salem.
