Anthony John Thorne

July 24, 1968 — February 18, 2016

Tony Thorne was born on July 24, 1968, in Torrance, California, to Jan and Linda Thorne. Shortly after, they moved back to Jan’s hometown of Nehalem, Oregon, where he lived until shortly after graduating from Neah-Kah-Nie High School in 1986.

Tony worked as a dairy farmer a little before starting his lifelong career as a logger with Gustafson Logging, where he worked his way up through all the different jobs in a logging outfit. After some years he left and went to work briefly for Bighorn Logging, and then onto his dream job as a faller with O’Brien Timber Falling, where he worked for 22 years.

Tony loved working and playing outdoors, but more than that he loved family. He was always doing things with his children and grandchildren; they were his greatest love of all. On the morning of Feb. 18, 2016, he was taken from us much too soon in an accident while cutting near Elsie, Oregon.

Tony was an amazing father, son, brother, grandpa, uncle, friend and timber faller. Truly considered one of the best by his peers. He is survived by his mother, Linda; brother, James; children, Elizabeth, CJ and Joey; and grandchildren, Kairi and Quinn. Where there walks a logger, there walks a man.

The funeral will be Saturday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Cemetery, located at 10755 Necarney City Road, Nehalem, Oregon 97131. Following will be a celebration of life at the Astoria Elks Lodge, located at 453 11th St., Astoria, Oregon 97103, from 1 to 5 p.m. All are in invited to attend both services.
