Vernon Rhea Hart

January 3, 1931 — February 23, 2015

Vernon Rhea Hart passed peacefully Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at the age of 84. He was born Jan. 3, 1931.

He is preceded in death by his mother “Nanny” Anastatia and his father “Manny” Emmanuel, wife Deloris, sister Lucille Jones and daughter Jeanette.

He is survived by his son Martin Hart; sister Ruth Edwards; sister-in-law Beverly Beach; five grandchildren, Ashlee Dugan, Allyson Wentz, Jennifer Hart, John Hart and Jessie Hart; and many great-grandchildren.

Vernon grew up here in Warrenton, Ore., where he made many lifelong friends and memories. After he graduated from Warrenton High School in 1948, he attended Monmouth University with a football scholarship from 1948-1950. A few short years later he was drafted into the U.S. Army, then married his high school love, Deloris, in 1950.

Over the years, Vernon had many accomplishments. After two boats went down — one being cut in half by a freighter, and the other catching on fire while out at sea — he decided to get his own. The first was the Eloise, then the Odania, followed by the two largest, the St. Jude and the Hornett. He retired in the early 2000s after countless trips back and forth to Alaska fishing. He was also one of the founding members of the Warrenton Fishermen’s Association.

Vernon made many lifelong friends. He and Deloris grew the family with his son Marty and daughter Jeanette. Eventually he was blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved and adored.

Vernon will be fondly remembered by his many friends and family for his overwhelming love, kindness and laughter. Vernon was a loving father, brother, grandpa, uncle and friend who loved being around people.

Vernon’s life was well-lived, and he will be missed by everyone every day.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. at the Warrenton Christian Church.

Memorial charity contributions may be made to the Warrenton Deep Sea Fishermen’s Benefit Fund, P.O. Box 1062, Warrenton, OR 97146 or Clatsop Animal Assistance, www.dogsncats.or
