Beverly Jean Johnson

Beverly Jean Johnson, age 80 of Astoria, passed away Sunday, September 14th, 2014, in Astoria. She was born August 7th, 1934, in Glendale, California, to Charles Whiteside and Blanche Velma Combs Whiteside. She moved with her family from California to Knappa, Oregon, in 1946. She graduated from Knappa High School in 1950. On June 22nd, 1952, she married Arthur Johnson in Wahkiakum County, Washington. In 1954, she worked at the Duncan Law Seafood Research Center as a bookkeeper. From 1967 to1973 she worked for Garcia Ford Company (now Astoria Ford) as a bookkeeper. She also worked at the Sebastian-Stewart Cannery in Astoria as a bookkeeper for two years. She retired in 1975. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and sewing. Survivors include her husband, Arthur Johnson; a son, Donald Johnson of the John Day area of Astoria; a son, Robert Dean Johnson of Warrenton; a brother, Milton Whiteside of Svensen, Oregon; a sister-in-law, Joyce Hoffman of Warrenton; and a sister, Laura Mae Whitcomb of Wauseon, Ohio. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria, Oregon. Graveside services will follow at Knappa Prairie Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., September 23, 2014. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenviille Ave., Dallas, Texas 75231. Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
