Mildred (Millie) Marie Larson, 81, went home to her Lord September, 13, 2013. She was born and raised in Fairbank, Iowa, on October 15, 1931, to August Herman and Edna Marie (Hein) Braun.
She met and married Glenn Everett Larson on January 28, 1951, in Fairbank, Iowa. Shortly after the birth of their first child, they moved to Astoria, Oregon. The remaining four children were born in Astoria, where Millie was a homemaker and active with her church.
When their youngest child started school, Millie began her working career as a librarian at Tongue Point Job Corps Center, and was soon promoted to an Administrative Secretary. She then worked for the State of Oregon Children’s Services Division as an Administrative Assistant until her retirement.
Millie treasured her family and friends and loved to visit with them. Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, fishing and crafts. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and a loyal friend who would always help those in need.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, daughter Glenda, and three siblings Melvin Braun, Francis Buckner and Mary Niebuhr.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Steve (Sue) Larson, Dave (Angela) Larson, Lynette (Allen) Vollmer and Roberta (Tim) Thurber; and four grandchildren and spouses, Jennifer (Lester) Zook, Justin (Brittany) Thurber, Lori and Jodi Vollmer.
Public viewing will be at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A memorial service for Millie will be held Thursday, September 19, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 565 12th Street, Astoria, Oregon. A private family interment will precede the memorial service.
