Caroline Nadine Hazen

August 21, 1940 — June 24, 2013

Carolyn Nadine (Lawson) Hazen was born in Forest Grove, Oregon, to Henry E. and Juanita B. Lawson Aug. 21, 1940.

She was the youngest of 3 children, having 2 older brothers, Jerry and Steve.

The family moved to Seaside in 1943, and “Sis,” as she was called all her life by her family & friends, went through the Seaside school system, graduating from Seaside High School in 1958.

She attended Benke Walker Business College in Portland, and then went to work for First National Bank in Seaside.

On December 20th 1959, she married Roy Hazen in Seaside, and soon they made their home on a small farm on Westlake (south of Warrenton, OR).

Her family grew, and after 15 years on the farm, the family moved to Gearhart, living there until May of 2000, when Sis & Roy moved to their new home – again back to the Westlake area.

During these years she raised 4 children and was blessed also with 12 grandchildren.

Also during these years she worked as a bookkeeper for various family businesses. She was known for her “perfect” handwriting.

Besides her husband of 531/2 years, she is survived by her 4 children, Roger Hazen and his wife Kelly of Warrenton, Shelly Corder and husband Joe of Gearhart, Katie Johnson and husband Wes of Warrenton and Tiffany Corder and husband Josh of Seaside.

Her 12 grandchildren and 4 granddaughters-in-law: Riley Hazen and wife Mindy of Warrenton, Logan Hazen and wife Brittany of Hillsboro, OR, Makenna Hazen of Warrenton, Coyan Corder and wife Teirrah of McMinnville, OR, and Abby, Kersey, Maggie and Sawyer Corder, all of Gearhart, Kyle Johnson and wife Holly of Warrenton and Haydon Johnson of Warrenton. Darla and Keely Corder of Seaside.

Also surviving are a number of nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother and both of her brothers.

Sis was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was an active member of the Seaside congregation for over 46 years. She credited her Bible education for the successes of her marriage and family.

She enjoyed buying and selling antiques and collectibles and had spaces in antique malls in Seaside, Gearhart, Astoria and Seaview, Wash., over the years.

She loved spending anniversary vacation trips to Maui and exploring 5 other Hawaiian islands, often joined by family members and friends. She also enjoyed a number of cruises to Alaska, Mexico and Central America.

Sis will be remembered for her artistic talents as well as her qualities of love, kindness, humility, generosity and a great sense of humor.

She will be missed by her family and her many friends.

A memorial will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2667 Highway 101 N. in Seaside at 2 p.m. Saturday July 13th.
