Jaime Elizabeth Shipman Grosshuesch

Jaime Grosshuesch, 66, of Cannon Beach, Oregon, died Saturday, December 15, 2012 after a long battle with cancer.

She was born to James and Jane Shipman, October 10, 1946, in Neenah, Wisconsin. Jaime attended Miami University and graduated from the University School in Milwaukee in 1965. After a whirlwind courtship, she married John Grosshuesch on February 16, 1991. Together, they criss-crossed the country, eventually settling in Cannon Beach where Jaime took great delight in watching the pelicans, the surf, and "my John" (as she called him) on the stage.

Jaime was a passionate, caring, and fiercely loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored her children and grandchildren, and loved nothing more than getting down on the carpet with the children to build a fort, play with 'Polly Pockets', read a book, then head down to the beach for a walk, a laugh, build a sandcastle, or to look for her treasured sand dollars -- anything, so long as everyone was together and having a good time.

She had a huge, generous heart, an incisive wit, and an agile imagination and she truly loved spending time with her friends. She was a natural raconteur and regaled us with tales (short and tall) of her time in boarding school, at the bank, and back in Wisconsin, Texas, and Arizona. She painted characters so vivid, you half expected them to come and join you at the table; her father, for example, was alive in her imagination and her heart. It's no surprise, then, that she was such an accomplished writer. Jaime completed over 10 novels, culminating in the publication of “The Princess of Cannon Beach” (under the pen name, Kathryn James). She was so delighted when the book came out. It truly was her pride and joy.

Jaime is survived by cadres of loving friends, but most importantly, her husband, John, of Cannon Beach; her son John McLandress, daughter-in-law Catherine, and grandchildren Ian and Isabelle, of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; as well as son Andrew McLandress, daughter-in-law Michelle, and grandchildren Elizabeth and Charlotte, of Portland, Oregon; sister Leslie Vinson, of Tucson, Arizona; and brother James Shipman, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The hole she has left in the world is matched only by the love we carry for her in our hearts. She will be missed. Always.

A celebration of Jaime’s life will be held Saturday, December 22, 2:00 PM, at the Coaster Theatre in Cannon Beach.
