Shirley Rae Holmes

Shirley Rae Holmes, age 80, of Warrenton, died Monday, May 14, 2012, in Astoria, surrounded by friends. She was born May 8, 1932, in Astoria, to Elroy B. and Lola Ladd Blair. Raised in the Astoria area, she graduated from Knappa High School June 7, 1950. On Aug. 23, 1956, she married Harold John Holmes. He preceded her in death Feb. 19, 2001. Mrs. Holmes worked at various locations in Astoria, including U.S. National Bank, Bank of Astoria and Englund Marine. Since 2004, she was employed as a checker at Fred Meyer in Warrenton. She was a member of the Fern Chapter of the Eastern Star, and was installed as worthy matron June 30, 1973. Family member said she loved visiting with family and her many friends. She also loved spending time with her Samoyed dog, Shadow, and her cat, Chris. She is survived by a cousin, Brenda Vandweghe of Seattle. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton. A reception will follow at the Warrenton United Methodist Church, 679 S.
