Juanita Poole

Juanita Poole, 85, of Svensen, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, in Gearhart.

She was born Nov. 23, 1926, in Cheap, Greenup County, Ky., to George H. Phillips Sr. and Malissa (Noble) Phillips.

In December 1945, she married Melvin D. Hebert Sr. They later divorced.

On Nov. 8, 1968, she married Troy C. Poole at the Logan (Utah) Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Poole was a cannery worker. She also worked as a custodian for the LDS church in Astoria.

She was a member of the LDS church, the Relief Society and the Family History Center.

Family members said she enjoyed camping, hunting and reading. She worked in genealogy for 50 years.

She is survived by a brother, Clarence Phillips of Svensen; a son and daughter-in-law, Gerry and Kathy Hebert of Gearhart; a daughter-in-law, Janis Hebert of Svensen; three stepchildren, Sandy Lundgren and her husband, Dennis, of Roy, Wash., Donna Berg and her husband, Pat, of Centralia, Wash., and Geoff Poole of Astoria; three grandchildren, Jess Hebert of Seaside, Theresa Rooke of Gearhart and Mel Hebert III of Svensen; six stepgrandchildren, Micheal Mounce of Spokane, Wash., Dennis Lundgren of Shelton, Wash., Randy Lundgren of Roy, Geoffrey Poole of Astoria, and Jason Lee and Juaquina Berry of Tacoma, Wash.; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, June Sivers of Boston.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Charles and Orrin Phillips; a sister, Anna Haasl; a son, Melvin Hebert Jr., who died in Vietnam; and a stepdaughter, Pat Mounce.

Interment has already taken place at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.

A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Astoria Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 350 Niagara Ave.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lower Columbia Hospice, 486 12th St., Astoria, OR 97103.
