Polly Sweet McKee, 90, of Seaside, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, in Tualatin.
She was born Feb. 20, 1922, in Portland, to John Herman and Freda Jensen. Her father died when she was 2 years old, and the family moved to Astoria when she was 3 years old.
She graduated from Astoria High School and attended Oregon State College, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
She married Jerry McKee. He preceded her in death Feb. 4, 2007, after 63 years of marriage.
Mrs. McKee worked at Fort Stevens, where she met her husband during World War II. The couple lived in Seaside, where she worked at the Seaside Clinic, the Providence Seaside Hospital and Kent Price Realty.
She was active in community and civic affairs as a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, the church vestry, as a senior church warden and as a member of the Providence Seaside Hospital Auxiliary and Board of Directors for 20 years. She participated in Red Cross blood drives and in the “Calendar Girls” for the Sunset Empire Park and Recreation Department Pool.
She loved going to the beach with her family. Family members said she loved her friends and always had a good time.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane Gilbert and Mike Kornegay and Jackie and Dave Warrington, all of Portland; three grandchildren, Craig Gilbert and his wife, Lila, of Portland, Michelle Tullis and her husband, Andy, of Bend, and Megan Gilbert of San Francisco; and three great-grandchildren, Jack Tullis of Bend and Porter and Olivia Gilbert of Portland.
A memorial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Seaside. A reception will follow. Later in the day, at 4 p.m., a party will be held in her honor at 2951 Sunset Blvd. in Seaside.
