Robert "Bob" J. Gannaway

Robert J. “Bob” Gannaway, 81, of Hammond, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, in Portland.

He was born June 28, 1930, in International Falls, Minn., to Clinton James and Dulice (Kinshella) Gannaway.

The family moved to St. Paul, Minn., when he was a child. He attended schools in St. Paul and the University of Minnesota.

On Aug. 5, 1950, he married Janet Louise Knobloch. She survives, residing in Hammond.

In 1950, Mr. Gannaway started his working career with U.S. Plywood Company, working in the warehouse, then in sales, and then in a management position. He continued working in a management capacity for several wood product companies in cities through out the U.S., retiring in the 1980s. After his retirement, the family moved to Clatsop County, where he worked with his sons at GB Jewelers in Warrenton for 10 years.

He was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Hammond and was on the Sunset Empire Transportation District Board for 18 years. He was also a member of the Warrenton Rotary Club.

Family members said his hobbies included fishing, hunting and watching football.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Timothy and Linnea Gannaway of Hammond, James and Theresa Gannaway of Warrenton, Peter Gannaway of Astoria and Daniel Gannaway of Bountiful, Utah; two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy and Thomas Parker of the Grand Cayman Islands and Carol Gannaway of Whidbey Island, Wash.; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Leah and Marvin Dunbar of Kent, Wash.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Clare Gannaway of Mesa, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A recitation of the rosary will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Mission, 867 Fifth Ave. in Hammond.

A graveside Service will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
