Myrtle Lenore (Breunig) Hauer

February 3, 1924 — January 15, 2012

Myrtle Lenore (Breunig) Hauer, 87, of Astoria, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, in Astoria.

She was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Portland, to Walter S. and Ella V. (Swanson) Breunig.

She attended Polytechnic High School in Portland, graduating in 1942.

On Oct. 31, 1942, she married Edward L. Hauer in Portland. He preceded her in death Nov. 7, 2002.

Mrs. Hauer worked as a nurse's aide at Columbia Memorial Hospital. She happily opened her home to board college students for many years. She also worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Rodney Miller most of her adult life.

For many years, she was a member of St. Mary's Altar Society, where she developed her most special lifelong friendships.

Family members said she enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, fishing, walking and traveling. One of her favorite things was having big family gatherings at her home.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward L. Hauer Jr. and Diane Hauer and Robert L. and Judy Hauer, all of Astoria; a daughter and son-in-law, Deanna L. and John Hord of Astoria; a daughter-in-law, Sally Hauer of Astoria; nine grandchildren, Terri Severson and her husband, George, of Klamath Falls, Karl Hauer and his wife, Lisa, Daniel Hauer and his wife, Sara, Daniel Hord and his wife, Allison, and Deborah Rivera and her husband, Juan, all of Astoria, Cynthia Murray and her husband, Mike, of Seaside, Michael Hauer and his wife, Sarah, of Renton, Wash., Tricia Almassi and her husband, Jonathan, of Portland and Marcus Hauer of Vermont; a brother-in-law, Elmer Watts and his wife, Louise, of Burns; a sister-in-law, Barbara Breunig of Pacific City; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Allan Lloyd Hauer in 1952, and Stanley L. Hauer in 2007; two sisters, Lucille Parham and Nina Watts; and a brother, Al Breunig.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Astoria Elks Lodge, second floor, 453 11th St.
