Melissa Elaine Monsen, 75, of Seaside, died Monday, March 28, 2011, in Seaside.
She was born April 13, 1935, in Portland, to Mortimer and Ragna (Dahl) Brown.
The family moved to Oakland, Calif., when she was 6 months old. She attended school there and graduated from Walnut Creek High School in 1953.
She attended San Jose State College for a year, then attended Samuel Merritt University for three years, and received a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
In 1958, she married Charles Griffiths. They later divorced.
In 1965, she married Carl A. Monsen in Virginia City, Nev. He preceded her in death in 1985.
Mrs. Monsen worked at Merritt Hospital in Oakland, in the operating room, for a few years. She then worked at Lafayette Pediatrics in Lafayette, Calif., for 10 years and at the John Muir Temporary Agency in Walnut Creek, Calif., for a few years. In 1995, she moved to Seaside.
Family members said her hobbies included gardening, sewing and quilting.
She is survived by a son, Charles L. Griffiths of Dublin, Calif.; and seven cousins, Marianne Iverson of Salem, Sarah Orr and Paul Dahl of Seattle, Bill Dahl and Stephen Fulton of Astoria, Gary Dahl of Palo Alto, Calif., and Robert Dahl of Arizona.
Mrs. Monsen requested that there be no service.
Private interment will be held at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
