Nancy Mae Freeman

Nancy Mae Freeman, 62, of Astoria, died Monday, March 14, 2011, in Portland.

She was born Dec. 12, 1948, in Seaside, to Edward E. and Meredith E. (Quick) Klever.

She was raised in Cannon Beach and Seaside. After high school, she attended Astoria Beauty College and received a license in cosmetology.

On Jan. 31, 1970, she married Roy D. Freeman in South Bend, Wash. He survives, residing in Astoria.

After her marriage, Mrs. Freeman was a homemaker. She then received her certified medical assistant license, and worked for a few years at Crestview Care Center in Astoria. The couple moved to Colton in 1985. She worked at Molalla Manor and Rackleff House Assisted Living in Canby. They returned to Astoria in 2002.

Family members said she enjoyed spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved working in the yard and cooking.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dan and Angela Freeman of Belfair, Wash., Ben and Michele Freeman of Scotts Mills and Roy Freeman of St. Robert, Mo.; six grandchildren, Austin McCallister and Hailey and Nicholas Freeman, all of Belfair, Lucas and Jenna Freeman of Scotts Mills and Shamus Freeman of Kelso, Wash.; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Ed Reitzenstein of Oregon City; and a brother and sister-in-law, August and Beverly Klever of Yuma, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Klever; and two sisters, Ellen Brown and Barbara Jones.

A memorial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave.

A graveside service will follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Warrenton.
